I absolutely loved this book! I do have to say though, that the movie ending was MUCH better! As for the narration...I very nearly gave this audio book 4 stars because, although James Wood was an excellent reader/story teller, there was a significant amount of pasty, dry-mouthed smacking, Very loud nose breathing and a slight list that I found so distracting I very nearly didn't finish the book.

The Kite Runner i smy pefect contemporary writing style i love. Khaled El Housini presents an educational and eye-opening to a place we never knew anuthing about called Afghanistan through heartbreaking struggles and emotional characters.

I was attached to Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul. Curious about Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant. Fascinated by the art of running kites and telling stories of mystical places. Hooked to the book after the Taliban interference and the change of events.

Plot's and turns and twists are amazing ( but somehow a little overdone and fabricated like in The Human Effect by Akmal Shebl, I guess that is a trend of Eastern writers )

Hosseini has created characters that seem so real that you will not forget the charcters and you will read again if you have time.

It's a book different to my usual dark taste for novels, but i discovered that it is not, because the horrors that happened in Afghanistan prove it is a one of a kind novel.

Coudl have been a 5 if not the matter of the unbelievable twists and turns. Still that is my humble view of a great work of literature.

I had read this story some years ago, but found it probably more entertaining this time. I consider this story a bit of a departure for King, because it almost reads as much like a mystery as a thriller, but leave no doubt, this one not only thrills, it chills—to the bone. All the characters are well crafted and this is King at his best.
SPOILER ALERT!
I'll keep this one short and sweet. I really liked this story. I have not yet read The Dark Half, so, I don't know how close it is to that, but I really thought this was a good example of a story that very subtly leads you (along with the main character) down the path of madness. So subtly, in fact, that you (like the story's protagonist) don't really see what's happening until you get toward the end and turn around and look back at what you've just been through. I liken it to The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, in that respect (and forgive me if I'm mistaken here, it's been years since I read that one).
So why 4 out of 5 stars? I gotta tell you, I didn't like the supernatural element thrown in at the very end (the hat and letter found by the ex-wife). I thought this story would be much more effective (scary) if it was all simply Mort's doing. Otherwise, a good read.
There is something to be said about being absorbed into a story that you've seen the movie adaptation of a couple of dozen times. This story is very well written and easy to get through. It is not without it's twists and turns that a good thriller novel requires. And, to my pleasant surprise, the ending in the book was very different from the ending in the movie - which is good enough a reason to read the book, in my opinion. I am a big fan of Stephen King's novellas, and this one is definitely going to the top of my list of Stephen King stories.
Typical King horror story. This one is about a writer who is recently divorced, and receives a visit from an old man who accuses him of stealing a story he wrote several years earlier. All the writer has to do is show the old man that his story was published two years prior to the old man’s. Turns out not be quite as easy as the writer thought. Good, solid horror story.
good listening
An adequate telling of an average story. James Woods is a wonderful actor. Too bad he's not a good audiobook narrator. The story itself is a good story...and James reaches several highs during his telling of the story. But overall, I was just left a little underwowed. It happens.
